Annie (Alicia Morton) is an eleven year old little girl who has been living in an orphanage her entire life. The orphanage is run by an evil woman named Miss Hannigan (Kathy Bates). Annie makes several attempts to get away from the orphanage (more in particular from Hannigan)when Grace Farrell (Audra McDonald) comes and brings her to the home of her rich employer Oliver Warbucks (Victor Garber) for Christmas. Annie manages to make her way into the affections of everyone in the house, including the, at first, cold Mr. Warbucks. Mr. Warbucks decides he wants to adopt Annie, but she is still looking for her biological parents. Miss Hannigan's brother (Alan Cumming) and his girlfriend (Kristin Chenoweth) kidnap Annie (pretending to be her parents) in a plot to get the reward money.
