Newsletter 01: Toyota vs. Mercedes

The design of the blue Toyota Comfort taxis in Singapore reminds me very much of the design of 1980s-1990s Mercedes sedans. It's unsettling to keep seeing them everywhere, with what seems to be the "wrong" logo on the front and back ends.

Yes, the Mercedes cars are fancier. But also note that these are diesel-fuel Toyotas; my Dad had a diesel Mercedes, so the distinctive sound of a diesel engine, not so common in the US, is nevertheless very familiar to me, and also very associated with the brand Mercedes. So not only do these things keep faking me out with their appearance, they also sound the same...
